Many LD kids have a weakness in verbal-linguistic ability. Difficulty with language and reading, central auditory processing problems, low scores on Verbal subtests on the WISC-IV - all suggest verbal-linguistic weakness. Kids with this weakness CAN learn to read! Intensive efforts in the early grades using a balance of phonics and whole language approaches will help. Parents should also consider tutoring and special schooling that uses a multi-sensory approach to reading development.
